Windows 10 already on 14 million computers

In an open letter to Microsoft Beard used some strong language, stating that Microsoft’s actions concerning the browser are “disturbing”.

A day after Windows 10 officially launched in 190 countries, Microsoft announced the official pricing in India for Windows 10. That means, if you were using Chrome or Firefox as your default browser in Windows 8.1, the preference will now be shifted to Edge as the new default browser as soon as you upgrade. Following the upgrade, they can easily choose the default browser for their choice.

“Sometimes we see great progress, where consumer products respect individuals and their choices”, Beard noted in his letter.

“We’re humbled and grateful to see the response to Windows 10“, the company wrote on its Windows blog.

The new operating system will be the first to unite all Windows-powered devices – from sprawling desktop set-ups to svelte smartphones, multi-touch tablets, Raspberry Pis and even the firm’s own Xbox One video game console.

When a third-party app tries to set itself as the default application, instead of showing a pop-up option to users, Windows 10 shows a settings page. Microsoft has changed this process by adding a few more steps to confirm the default application.

This is not the fist time Microsoft has faced controversy over its decision to install a default browser on Windows. “It’s confusing, hard to navigate and easy to get lost”, Beard’s letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella argued.
