Windows 10 Creators Update in final stages of development
Planned for February 2017 initially, the change was postponed.
Microsoft has not revealed the release date for Creators Update, its label for the next Windows 10 feature upgrade, and the first since the Anniversary Update of August 2016.
Now, thankfully, we’ll never have to think about it again.
Speaking of metered connections and changes in the Creators Update, the ability mark a wired connection as metered was added to the network connection settings page over the development process as well. The release of the update is just weeks away, but some lucky users will get the update earlier than others. In doing so the company claims it aids system administrators in knowing when to put aside time for testing and release, though it has previously broken the cycle in order to send out particularly critical security updates know to be under active exploitation ahead of time.
While Microsoft ultimately updated Windows Vista to respond to user concerns, the operating system will likely be remembered as one of the company’s biggest gaffes.
The high number of patches in this release are because Microsoft made a decision to postpone by a month the security updates it had originally scheduled for February. If you search for the KB ID, you only get the listing for Internet Explorer 9 (which means Vista and Server 2008).
Microsoft will distribute the final version of the Windows 10 “Creators Update” to testers by the end of this month.
More: Stop refreshing Windows Update! Build 15058 was released yesterday, and Microsoft intends to push out a second update by the end of the week. The FAQ notes that “Windows Update will only download priority updates”.
Now that the update has been released, we can see that there was plenty to be patched.
On the formal announcement on its support site, even Microsoft sounds more than ready to forget Windows Vista ever happened.
There is a bug where if you need to restart your PC due to a pending update like with the latest Surface firmware updates, the restart reminder dialog doesn’t pop up.
The update will not be updated to protect against any new threats, glitches or bugs discovered in the operating system after April 11th.
Now You: How would you like Microsoft to handle update information?
