Windows virtual assistant Cortana now available on Android
For a long time, it was the only option available, but recently the arrival of Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Cortana and Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google Now has heated things up. With this, Android users will now be able to test the Cortana Android app. The company claims that Cortana works in multiple devices such as PC, mobile phones and more.
Also, Cortana has the ability to replace Google Now when the users press the Android home button on a handset.
While most Cortana features will be available on Android, some have been limited to Windows only, at least for now.
According to Microsoft, Cortana on Android can do most of the functions that the app already does in Windows environment. “With the app, you can manage your hectic lifestyle by setting and getting reminders, searching the web on-the-go, tracking important information such as flight details as well as starting and completing tasks across all of your devices”, Microsoft announced via its official blog site.
But don’t expect to trigger Cortana by just babbling Hey Cortana. “As with all betas, we are continually improving the experience and will incorporate feedback along the way”.
Now, a beta version of Cortana has been made available to US users and is expected to be rolled out to other markets in the coming days.
The full Windows 10 version of Cortana, which is created to function seamlessly across all devices running the new OS, is part of the Windows search feature.
Microsoft offers Cortana as a rival to Google’s Google Now and Apple Inc.
In July, originally released to a small number of users, Today’s update is a significant step as Microsoft looks to expand Cortana’s footprint beyond Windows platoform.
Cortana also has distinct advantages in the personalization department, as it requires your permission to go ahead and personalize itself for you.
