Winds Of Winter Release Date: ‘The Winds of Winter’ Reported To Arrive
George R.R. Martin has revealed that he still hasn’t finished Winds of Winter, and is almost certain now that it won’t be out before Game of Thrones season 6 premieres on HBO in April.
Now, however, it’s not clear when the novel will be released, but it’s sad to know that it won’t be released before the sixth season of Game of Thrones.
Consider this your George R.R. Martin update of the day: yes, it is almost 2016, but no, he has yet to complete the sixth book in the Game of Thrones series. It is then understandable why fans are latching on to any news about the release of its follow-up, “The Winds of Winter”. You’re disappointed, and you’re not alone… but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me.
The next season of “Game of Thrones” still doesn’t have an official premiere date. Sometimes if what I wrote the day before is not very good I spend the whole day rewriting what I did the day before.
“But I won’t make excuses”.
“I just did a film festival in Switzerland and France, and I was in a room for two days having different journalists come in every 30 minutes to ask the same questions over and over and over again”.
Martin blames no one but himself for the delay, but acknowledges that it’s about to flip the knowledge gap among the show’s fanbase on its head, because, “For years my readers have been ahead of the viewers”.
However, George R.R. Martin, has confirmed what fans of the popular series were dreading to hear, that he isn’t close to finishing the latest book. Explaining the reaction of his editors, the author said: “I$3 thought they’d be sick about it … but I have to say, my editors and publishers are great, and they took it with surprising equanimity”. Because the books and the show are popular I have interviews to do constantly.
“I blew the Halloween deadline, and I’ve now blown the end of the year deadline”. Personally, I’m just hopeful that this year will be better for both Martin and TWoW than last year was.
Obviously, Benioff and Weiss along with the writers on Game of Thrones could change directions but it’s not likely the story will deviate that much from Martin’s source material so chances are season 6 will end up spoiling at least parts of The Winds of Winter. Meanwhile, the author has admitted that he never expected the TV series to catch up so quickly to the books it is based on.
“Some of the “spoilers” you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all… because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so”.
In his blog post, Martin included the photo shown above. In order to achieve this, he says he has “assistants and minions whose main job is to make sure don’t bother him”.
