Windsor’s unemployment rate drops, but remains highest in Canada

In the USA, 292,000 jobs were added in December, finishing out a strong year.
The report’s year-end review says national employment rose by 0.9 per cent in 2015 as the labour force bulked up by 158,000 net jobs.
December’s gains capped a rocky year of job creation, where the country shed 25,600 energy, mining and other natural resources jobs.
Despite the addition in jobs, the National jobless rate stayed at 7.1 per cent.
Statscan said December employment increased by 16,500 in healthcare and social assistance and by 15,400 in educational services, while dropping by 14,400 in accommodation and food services.
The jobless rate climbed by 0.4 percentage points previous year, as more people sought work, Statistics Canada said. The manufacturing sector, which was expected to benefit from the lower dollar, increased by 2.1 per cent in 2015.
Ontario was the only province to post a jobs increase, according to the figures released Friday.
The agency said municipalities issued $6.2 billion worth of building permits in November, down 19.6 per cent from October. The total labour force declined by 400.
