Winning Powerball tickets in California, Florida, Tennessee
No tickets sold in New Jersey won the record-setting Powerball jackpot but the state is well-represented in the winner’s circle from Wednesday’s drawing.
The California ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in Chino Hills, California, lottery spokesman Alex Traverso told The Associated Press.
Overall, the 11,000 retailers in MI sold 10.7 million Powerball tickets on January 13.
The winning numbers in the largest Powerball ever are 8-27-34-4-19-10.
Winning the grand prize requires matching all five numbers, regardless of order, and the red Powerball number.
The locations where those tickets were sold have not yet been announced. The identity of the victor is not yet known.
Almost three hours after the draw, it was learned that the winning numbers were also drawn in Tennessee and Florida.
In fact dozens of people gathered Wednesday night in suburban Los Angeles outside the store where the winning ticket was sold.
Shashwat Mali sold a Powerball ticket Monday to Pedro Armendariz, of Caddo Mills at the Appletree Food Mart in Princeton. A 1 in 292 million chance of winning.
Just six states do not participate, but the Multi-State Lottery Association says that some of the biggest Powerball sales have come from cities bordering states that don’t sell them. That was lottery officials’ intention past year when they tweaked the number of balls to choose from to make it easier to win smaller prizes but harder to hit the jackpot.
Three people are waking up in America today with access to riches beyond their wildest dreams and 73 others are millionaires because the Powerball jackpot has been won. Each victor will get more than $500 million. Lottery prizes are exempt from California state and local personal income taxes due to the California State Lottery Act of 1984.
The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
