Winona Ryder confirms ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel is in the works
Which is why it was so awesome to hear her straight-up confirm that yes – YES!
“There’s been talk of a Beetlejuice sequel”, host Seth Meyers told Winona when she dropped by to chat, getting right to the point.
Winona Ryder, who starred in the cult classic movie, Beetlejuice, back in 1988, dropped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on August. 10, and basically made our dreams come true. “[Burton] did an on camera interview, and he said, ‘Yes!” When they’re unable to get the new tenants out of their home, they hire Beetlejuice, a tricksy spookster with his own sinister agenda, to do their job for them. Tim Burton‘s Beetlejuice is a masterpiece.
“I’ve e-mailed Tim a couple of times”, he said. The confirmation comes on the heels of the film’s director, Tim Burton, and star, Michael Keaton, both hinting at their involvement in a followup project.
I always said that’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again.
Lead actor Michael Keaton has also previously said that he’s game to return.
She did, however, drop a delightful tidbit about how the film still resonates – apparently, some airport TSA agents won’t let her pass through security until she’s said you-know-who’s name three times.
And in December, Burton added, “There is a script, and I would love to work with him again”.
“I think I can confirm it”, Ryder answered.
“‘There’s something that’s cathartic and fantastic about it. I think it’s closer than ever”, he continued.
