Winter storm dumping snow on Northern Plains
A new system is gathering over the northern Plains, centered over South Dakota and southern Minnesota.
West-central to south-central Minnesota is expected to pick up the most snow with this storm – forecast models are showing the potential for 8-12 inches.
The East Coast will see a slight dip in temperature on Monday after a warm Thanksgiving, though temperatures will again rise above average in many places and any precipitation will be rain. November is coming to an end, but not before another storm system delivers rain and snow to the Midwest.
Meteorologist Craig Cogil at the National Weather Service, says some 40 counties are under a Winter Storm Warning through this evening and for some areas, into the wee hours tomorrow. From 1-3 inches are called for Monday night. Not to mention, with temperatures close to freezing, this HEAVY WET SLOPPY SNOW will not have to work all that hard to melt, so measuring the stuff that falls could be difficult in some cases. Mitchell set a record Monday with 7.2 inches, along with Sioux City, Iowa, with 6.6 inches.
Parts of southeast South Dakota, northeast Nebraska and northern Iowa just finished digging out from Winter Storm Bella, which dumped up to 18 inches of snow near Sioux Falls last weekend.
The Twin Cities area and much of the rest of Minnesota is under a winter weather advisory.
The Twin Cities area received an early burst of snow from Delphi Monday morning, and as snow totals exceeded three inches, traffic suffered.
