Winter storm expected to bring heavy snow during morning commute
A winter weather advisory will go into effect early Friday morning as commuters in NY and New Jersey may face a unsafe commute to work thanks to a coastal low bringing snow into the tri-state area.
“However, some of the hills in Eastern Connecticut could get an 8 inches snowfall, perhaps even more”, DePrest said. This may bring more significant snow, along with gusty winds, to parts of the Northeast, particularly New England, Tuesday into early Wednesday.
The rain falling over much of southeastern MA this morning will change to snow before ending.
A winter storm warning has been expanded to include Windham County thanks to a storm that is brewing to the east of CT. Snow will be heaviest between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. The storm will end during the late morning hours, with sunny skies anticipated during the afternoon.
Farther south, the National Weather Service said New York’s Long Island could see 5 inches or more.
39 inches of rain in the valley and 15 inches of snow in the surrounding mountains are moving out today, but chilly temperatures and gusty winds will stick around, according to the National Weather Service.
Before then, though, the corridor from NY to Boston has been dealing with a first round of snow Friday. That advisory runs from 1 a.m.to 1 p.m. on Friday, and it’s predicted that we’ll see 3 to 6 inches of snow. Most of the East Coast remains fairly calm as it struggles to shake off the piled high snow mantles and resume normal activity after being slammed with snowfall.
The city’s Department of Sanitation has also issued a “Snow Alert”. All the way into Canada, cold air is lacking and an incoming cold front is just approaching the Canadian border, but with a very sluggish drop in temperature behind it. So…how could the atmosphere cool enough for snow?
Thursday: Increasing clouds, Rain developing then changing to snow, moderate at times, east. Lows: 28-32.
