Winter Storm Warning Issued For South Central Kansas
Rain will slowly transition to freezing rain, from north to south, through Thursday night. This wintry mix will make for risky driving conditions.
Freezing rain continues across central and western Oklahoma Saturday morning.
Winter storms can throw a whole variety of hazardous conditions at us and unlike severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings, these alerts are regionalized.
The National Weather Service says the ice storm warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday to noon Saturday. In addition, a Winter Weather Watch has been issued for Andrews, Howard, Martin, Ector, Glasscock, Loving Midland, Mitchell, Reeves, Winkler, and Lea Counties as well as the Guadalupe Mountains and the Davis/Apache Mountains from Friday night through Saturday morning. 5 inches of ice accumulation on the trees, power lines and bridges.
Meanwhile, with up to 4 inches of rain expected in northeast Texas and central Arkansas, a flash flood threat continues in North Texas and most of Arkansas.
A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when you are expecting ANY freezing rain that is going to accumulate on roads and sidewalks and snow that accumulates to an average of 1 to 2 inches. Afternoon temperatures will still fall short of average, although, highs will likely be a touch above Friday.
