Winter Storm Warning Issued with Heavy Snow Likely
Snow is expected to start falling Monday evening between 5 and 8:00 p.m., the Post notes, and should stop around sunrise on Tuesday.
The snow will eventually transition to lake-effect snow Tuesday night into Wednesday, with snow ending around 8 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service predicts.
Temperatures are expected to reach about 50 degrees by next weekend. Areas south and east of the city have lower projected amounts, while areas north and west have higher projections.
Next week will gradually warm up with highs in the low-40s early in the week, but by Thursday temperatures will be in the upper-50s and lower-60s.
Snowfall may continue into Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service said.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Sunday for the entire Baltimore and Washington areas starting 7 p.m. Monday until 2 p.m. Tuesday. Heavy snow is expected into the evening and overnight. The “most likely” scenario called for up to 3 inches in the northern part of the county, quickly tapering to no snowfall from the Georgetown area toward the coast.
Most places across southern New England will see significant snow accumulation, ranging from 1 to 2 feet. This means power outages are possible throughout the entire state. But if the storm tracks farther east, drawing more cold air into the area, more snowfall is possible.
The NWS said strong winds gusting 40-50 miles per hour might cause blizzard conditions along portions of coastal New England. Whiteouts and blizzard conditions are expected during the height of the storm Tuesday afternoon, making travel extremely risky and even impossible at times.
“The Tuesday commute throughout either time of the day is going to be treacherous, especially the morning commute”, Hoegg said.
