Winter Storm Watch Now Includes Cook, DuPage Counties
It looks like winter is about to throw an early punch. “The area along the Alaska Highway west of Tok may get very strong south winds as well”. The low will be about 29, and as much as 3 inches of snow could fall on Friday night.
In Livingston county and north of M 59, which includes Ortonville, Lapeer, Armada, and St. Clair and Sanilac County, over 5 inches of snow will be common.
It would be the area’s first winter storm of the season.
The winter weather watch covers Lake, Kane, McHenry, DeKalb, Winnebago, and 13 other counties in northern IL. The National Weather Service asks to only travel in an emergency.
After a light mix of rain/snow develops late Friday afternoon we’ll see a transition to all snow late Friday evening. Saturday’s forecast high is 34, with a low of 13.
Given this first snow of the season in a few of these areas may be locally heavy, slow down, leave extra time if you must travel, or consider postponing your trip.
Sunday will have scattered snow showers in the morning. Lesser accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected north of Dane County, with amounts diminishing rapidly north of Wisconsin Dells. Temperatures will barely reach the 30 degree mark.
Highs will stay in the low 30s Sunday for a breezy and cold Bears game before returning to the 40s for the start of the work week.
