Winter Weather Preparedness Week in IL
Accumulating snow remains all but a certainty for most of Mid-Michigan on Saturday. A heavy bad of snow is forecast along the Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and IL boarders. Six to 10 inches of snow are expected across many sections of Iowa.
It looks like winter is about to throw an early punch.
The forecast issued at 4 a.m. today (Nov. 20) explains that snow will develop across southeast MI early Saturday morning, increasing in coverage and intensity during the afternoon and evening.
Stormtracker 18 Weather meteorologists say the storm will produce snow in Iowa and extreme southern Minnesota on Friday afternoon, and southern Wisconsin and northern IL on Friday night and Saturday morning. Steady snow throughout the day with heavy snow likely at times. Only travel in an emergency.
The snowfall continued most of Saturday and was still falling and blowing steadily as the winter storm warning for the area was set to expire at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The 27 Storm Track Weather team is tracking the current storm coming into our area Friday night.
The warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday, November 21.
There may be an inch or two of additional snowfall before the end of the day, according to the National Weather Service, but the majority of the storm has already tapered off.
Areas around Indianapolis will like see around an inch of less, but because of the heavy snow, visibilities could be limited at times.
Enough snow will fall to cause slippery travel along thousands of miles of highways, including interstates 35, 75, 80 and 90/94 in the Midwest.
The high for Saturday will be in the upper 30s dropping to the lower 30s farther north.
