Wiry convertible Range Rover Evoques invade London
The keen-eyed among you will notice to the new Evoque convertible seems deficient in a number of traditional regards. When it lands, it will be the lone player in the topless crossover segment. Made of aluminium and rendered in several colors, the sculptures are detailed enough to include front and rear seats as well as 3D wheels.
Anyhow. Land Rover tells us the real, non-wireframe Evoque Convertible will be revealed in November, which points to a debut at the Los Angeles show in the middle of the month.
Halewood, which employs 4,500 staff, now produces the top-selling Range Rover Evoque and the popular Land Rover Discovery Sport. Back in 2011, Land Rover teased the Evoque with the wireframe art work. As the name suggests, it is a SUV created to be nostalgic in terms of design, features and build. The company also unveiled the Range Rover Vogue SE which is their six millionth vehicle. These “wireframe” sculptures were recently displayed in numerous locations across London.
Although unconfirmed, the Evoque Convertible’s engine range should largely be the same as the fixed-roof version’s, including a 150bhp 2.0-litre eD4 diesel. “The locations chosen reflect the refined and luxurious lifestyle of an Evoque Convertible customer – two attributes this vehicle delivers in abundance”, said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer. At the same time, they don’t give too much away on the looks of the new Evoque Cabriolet, even though I think we all know what to expect.
“We’re not going to change our strategy”, Joachim Eberhardt, president of Jaguar Land Rover North America, said yesterday after a speech to the Automotive Press Association in Detroit, Michigan, the hub of the U.S. auto industry.
