Wisconsin Assembly to approve $500 million Bucks arena deal
Wisconsin’s assembly will vote Tuesday on a bill that would finance a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks. It calls for $250 million in public financing and $250 million from current and former Bucks owners.
Typically, 50 votes are required for the 99-seat assembly to pass a bill, but fewer votes could be required Tuesday because the vote is occurring at an unexpected time when several legislators are on vacation, as mentioned by the Journal Sentinel. The taxpayer portion will eventually grow to about $400 million over 20 years.
A bipartisan vote is also expected today in the state Assembly.
“This is a fair plan”.
Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, right, motions to Democratic… He thanked Walker and a bipartisan group of state and Milwaukee-area office holders for negotiating to reach a compromise.
The State Senate approved the public financing package for a new arena in downtown Milwaukee by a 21-10 vote.
The bill will need Republic and Democratic support to pass the Assembly, because not all Republicans – members of the majority party – support it. a few Democrats want it altered.
Supporters argue the economic benefits outweigh the cost of losing the team and the income taxes paid by National Basketball Association players and staff.
