Wisconsin to roll out new driver’s licenses, ID cards
Perry says will make the state’s cards the “most secure in North America”.
“We’re rolling them out across the state”, she said. There is no fee increase and they will still be sent the new card through the mail about seven to ten days after visiting a service center.
“There’s several layers that have been melted together, so it’s virtually impossible to split apart the layers”. She said, “We try to do what we can to prevent that from happening, but these new licenses display birth dates on a raised surface that can’t be replicated by stamping on a phony date”.
Drivers licenses in Wisconsin are starting to look different. Perry says all of those features make the card more hard to copy.
DMV officials say the new cards are created to curb fraud and identity theft.
Ann Perry, the Director of the DMV Bureau of Driver Services said drivers licenses or IDs can be counterfeited by those hoping to fake a birth date or state residency.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Division of Motor Vehicles said a polycarbonate card and a laser-engraved black and white photo are the most prominent new features.
The stiffer cards have UV artistic renditions of the Wisconsin State Capitol building and Wisconsin flag.
Endorsements for commercial driving, including hazmat certification, are clearly noted.
It’s not the typical Wisconsin ID that so many of us are used to seeing. The current license they have is very secure as well.
Local law enforcement agencies say they won’t have a problem getting used to the new license when identifying people.
