Wisconsin town says goodbye to Marine slain in Chattanooga
A visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, 2015 from 11:00-1:00 PM at the Grantsburg High School.
A Marine Corps honor guard will serve as pallbearers.
Gov. Scott Walker has canceled a planned campaign stop in Garner on Saturday morning.
Shortly after the horrific murders of four Marines and one Navy petty officer in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Walker used his leadership role to lower American flags in his state to half-staff- something that took D.C. “leaders” five days to do.
The 25-year-old Holmquist grew up in the northwestern Wisconsin town of 1,300. Homquist joined the Marines in 2009 and was part of Mike Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve.
His victims came from across the country, but united in Chattanooga, brought together by their service in the military.
In 2012 he married his wife Jasmine, and the two later had a son named Wyatt. He served three tours of duty.
Walker also visited Tennessee shortly after the shootings to express his sympathy and his desire to see service members allowed to defend themselves against increasing threats. “Welcome home Sgt. Holmquist”.
