With A Little Help From Larry David, Bernie Sanders Does SNL
Larry David took his celebrated impression of Bernie Sanders to a new level on Saturday with a spoof episode of “Bern your Enthusiasm” on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
David’s impersonation of Sanders was hailed as the role he was born to play when the Seinfeld co-creator first essayed it following the Vermont senator’s arrival on the presidential scene past year.
Later in sketch, another female voter spots David right after she gets into a vehicle accident and asks him to pop her dislocated shoulder back into place. He pushed back on David’s character, demanding that since he’s rich, he should get special treatment. Sanders appeared and said he was sick of the 1 percent getting all of the advantages.
Responds David: “Sounds like socialism to me”.
Who do American Jews more identify with: The idealist who would hide his Jewishness; or the realist – and survivor – who knows his Jewishness will inevitably out?
The Democratic presidential candidate appeared alongside his comedic alter ego in a skit portraying a sinking ship.
Another skit on the show parodied Sanders’s loss in Iowa. The show’s cold open featured Taran Killam playing GOP candidate Ted Cruz describing himself as “a nasty little weasel”.
Bernie said, “We need to unite and work together if we’re all going to get through this!”
He says: ‘Okay. I hate to pull this, but my father is rich. I come from a wealthy family.
Sanders, who flew from Manchester, N.H., to NY on Saturday afternoon, returned to the Granite State early Sunday morning.
In a throwback to the host’s former HBO show, the SNL team did a sketch called “Bern Your Enthusiasm”. She gave me a cough-and-shake.
With the New Hampshire primary approaching on Tuesday, politics permeated “SNL”.
Later, Sanders comes to the aid of a young woman (Aidy Bryant) on her way to vote for him in the Iowa caucus but accidently crashes her auto.
Just then, a similarly dressed Sanders emerged from behind the set screaming for David to hold on.
