Instead, Hov’s moment of glory during Grammys weekend came when he was honored with the President’s Merit Award at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy gala on Saturday.

Trump told Jay-Z that African American unemployment had fallen to an all-time low. “It doesn’t. That’s missing the whole point”, said Jay-Z, no stranger to his material wealth.

The 48-year-old musician is now leading the Grammy Awards with eight nominations to boot.

So Lamar ended up dominating his genre categories. That award went to U2 for “Walk On”, while Album of the Year was awarded to the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack, leaving Arie with no awards.

Luis Fonsi is nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Vocal Pop Duo for his hit “Despacito”.

Mars gave an energetic and colorful performance of “Finesse” with breakthrough rapper Cardi B; Pink was a vocal powerhouse while she sang “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken”; and Rihanna, DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller teamed up for a vibrant performance of “Wild Thoughts”.

Keys swept nearly all of her categories, losing only Record of the Year.
