With Coldest Temperatures In A Decade, Mumbai Feels The Chill
This Wednesday, Mumbai’s minimum temperature plummeted to temperatures lower than the hill station Mahableshwar the same day.
Meanwhile, IMD Colaba recorded a temperature of 17.8°C on Tuesday, the second lowest minimum temperature recorded in the city for the month of December since 2004.
On Thursday, the minimum temperature touched a record low in the city, registering 11.4 degrees Celsius at Santacruz. The minimum at Santacruz was 6.3°C below normal. The maximum temperatures too have witnessed a slight dip in the city, the official said, adding that this cold spell would continue till the wind patterns do not change.
The all-time record so far for the month of December has been 10.6 degree Celsius on December 20, 1949. The lowest temperature recorded in this decade is 11.4 degrees Celsius in 2011.
“We expect the weather to remain cold for next few days”.
Today the temperature recorded is 11.4 degrees Celsius and it could dip further over the next two days, the met department said. Humidity in Santacruz was recorded to be 42 per cent whereas in Colaba it was recorded to be 56 per cent.
According to the weather bureau, the cold and dry northwesterly winds have been blowing over the region from Pakistan, forcing temperatures to settle on the lower side. Doctors advise caution. Physician Dr Shahid Barmare said there has been an increase in the number of patients coming with viral ailments with symptoms such as cough, cold and fever.
