With Oscars flub, Hollywood mocked itself more than it mocked Trump
In a moment that will go down as one of the most shocking in Oscar history, “Moonlight” was named Best Picture, but only after “La La Land” was mistakenly announced the victor first.
It was reportedly the fourth year that Mr Cullinan had been responsible for handing out the envelopes, the contents of which are known only to the two PwC employees handing them out on the night.
This is the speech that Barry Jenkins prepared to deliver when Moonlight won the Oscars for Best Picture. Kimmel said there were now producers from two movies on stage and nobody knew who was who.
For those who do not remember, the tweet hilariously points to the moment when back in 2015 host Steve Harvey accidentally announced the wrong name of the victor during the Miss Universe pageant.
“Even in my dreams this can not be true”, said director Barry Jenkins when he unexpectedly picked up the statuette for his low-budget coming-of-age drama.
“La La Land” producer Jordan Horowitz (L) holds up the victor card reading actual Best Picture victor “Moonlight” after a presentation error with actor Warren Beatty onstage during the 89th Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood & Highland Center on February 26, 2017, in Hollywood.
Most presenters entered stage right, where Cullinan was posted and where he handed Beatty and Dunaway the errant envelope.
The 89th Academy Awards honored the best of the best in Hollywood and through the ups and downs of the ceremony, social media users from around the world voiced their opinions online. He added that Emma Stone’s name was on the card inside the envelope.
La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz showed the correct card that read Moonlight.
Meanwhile, Barry admits he had prepared a speech if “Moonlight” was named the victor but says winning was a “dream he never allowed himself to have”.
Luckily, Beatty isn’t the first celebrity to embarrass himself like this.
La La Land led all films at the Oscars with six wins, including Best Actress for Emma Stone and Best Director for Damien Chazelle. “I wasn’t trying to be amusing!”
Warren Beatty, who was supposed to have the answer at the Oscars, only has questions.
Producer Jordan Horowitz also received some praise for turning the prize over graciously.
