Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’ hits one billion mark on YouTube
Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” is many things: a smash hit, a brilliant piece of corporate synergy, true art, a touching tribute to a fallen friend.
This week, the Pittsburgh rapper’s video for the chart-topping, triple-platinum hit “See You Again” became the 10th video to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube. The Furious 7 soundtrack song had a sentimental lean: It’s dedicated to the film franchise’s late star, Paul Walker.
The accompanying video features Khalifa and Puth performing the song mixed in with retrospective footage spanning the Fast and Furious saga.
Not only is the four-minute music video the fastest to ever achieve the landmark, it is also the first rap video to ever reach 1 billion views on YouTube.
Earlier this year, the singer wrote the song’s hook on just his second day living in Los Angeles. “See You Again” needed just six months to achieve one billion views.
It’s not the first time the song has broken records. Other videos in the Billion View Club include Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass, Justin Bieber’s Baby, Katy Perry’s Roar and Dark Horse, and Taylor Swifts Blank Space and Shake it Off.
