Wizards acquire Trey Burke from the Jazz
The Utah Jazz are trading guard Trey Burke to the Washington Wizards for a future second-round draft pick, The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Sunday.
Burke, the No. 9 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Jazz, had fallen out of favor in Utah, where the Jazz entered July with seven point guards, counting those under contract and drafted. In his first couple of seasons, the guard had managed over 30 minutes per game. He did shoot.340 from beyond the arc, but he struggled on layups and midrange jumpers. 344 from 3-point range. Of note, Nicholson improved his efficiency a year ago, shooting career highs from the floor (53.6%) and 3-point land (36%).
It’s likely Burke will act as John Wall’s primary backup in D.C. It’s definitely a fresh start for the still young point guard. In addition, his points per 36 minutes shot up to 17.9, well above his 2014-15 high of 15.3. He should fill that role for the Wizards with the potential of more playing time. The presumptive starting five is: Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, Markieff Morris and Marcin Gortat.
The move was no surprise: Burke found himself out of coach Quin Snyder’s rotation last season, even when the other options were relatively untested Shelvin Mack and Raul Neto.
Satoransky, the much-hyped point guard prospect now playing for Barcelona, has been reported as having little interest in being the third-string point guard on a roster.
