Wladimir Klitschko pulls out of Tyson Fury heavyweight fight after
The hotly anticipated heavyweight world title bout between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury, due to take place on 24th October, has been postponed due to the Russian champ sustaining a calf injury.
The news will be particularly frustrating for Fury who had David Haye pull out of two scheduled bouts against him afer suffering successive injuries.
The 39-year-old WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion suffered a tendon injury to his left calf, so will not be fit to box on the planned date.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Fury claimed that he was expecting Klitschko’s withdrawal and also expressed his disappointment for the fans who had spent money to travel. A new date is expected to be announced in the next week, with the venue of the Esprit Arena to remain unchanged.
“What about all the hotels, flights and cars that have been booked, that’s non-refundable. I don’t think I’m going to get a decision in Germany and I’m not going to leave the biggest fight of my life in someone else’s hands”.
Fury, 27, arrived dressed as Batman and wrestled with a man dressed as The Joker before threatening to fight Klitschko there and then after the Ukrainian called him a “clown”.
Once Fury’s synthetic indignation had subsided, Klitschko scoffed: “This bipolarity will be well-treated – just let me start the therapy for him by finishing his boxing career”. There’s no doubt in my mind I can’t beat Wladimir Klitschko.
Were confident that Mr. Klitschko can still take part in the planned world title fight this year..
Oh good, for a minute before he came out I thought that Tyson Fury was going to look ridiculous.
“I’m not nervous, if you know me you know I don’t get nervous”.
Fury rose to his feet and had to be restrained from confronting Klitschko.
Things are hard. People, theyre doing this because theyre showing support, but some of my fans cant afford to go really, but they pushed the boat out because its a massive occasion, its a once-in-a-lifetime thing. “We’ll find out, but you can’t really tell”.
I’ve been one of his critics in the past because there is that little bit of arrogance there but he’s a showman like his dad.
