Wladimir Klitschko wants rematch with Tyson Fury
British boxer Tyson Fury ended the reign of Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko in the heavyweight division on Saturday at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, in an unexpected unanimous decision.
Former WBC heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitschko, has expressed his shock at his brother’s loss to new WBA/WBO/IBF champion, Tyson Fury, insisting all decisions remain “up to Wladimir” with regards to his next move.
“It is up to him to decide what he wants to do”. He also performed a rendition of Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing to the delight of his fans in attendance.
“There were rounds in there I was playing with him, I had my hands behind my back, hands in the air and taunting him the whole way through”.
And while he was happy to trash-talk his rival during the build-up to the fight, afterwards he was full of respect for “a great champion”.
“I really tried but it did not work out”, said dethroned Wladimir Klitschko after the fight. I felt quite comfortable in the first six rounds, but I was astonished that Tyson was so fast in the second half as well. “I’ve got four”, Fury said as he counted the belts.
One factor that helped Fury was his height and reach advantage over the Ukrainian champ, something only one of Klitschko’s previous opponents could boast.
However, the new champion says that the result would be the same.
The fight, postponed once due to a Klitschko injury, nearly did not take place with Fury’s team complaining earlier on Saturday over the thick ring canvas that they claimed limited his movement.
And Fury backed up his numerous pre-fight taunts and even sang “I’ll be the one with all the belts” to Klitschko last Wednesday when he modified the lyrics to Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath my Wings – a prediction that came true. “I know his strengths but I couldn’t see any of it”.
“There’s a lot more Wladimir can give and a lot more Tyson can give, but I do believe the outcome will be the same because Tyson can raise his game a lot more”.
“I knew I was behind and had to land the punches”.
‘I saw in his eyes tonight he was going to lose the fight and he saw the new, hungry champion in me.
He said his rise to become Heavyweight Champion was not easy and despite being undefeated so far in his career, he was constantly written off.
