Wolverines’ best QB is Jake Rudock, hands down, Jim Harbaugh says
Last week, I said I wanted to see the team make some big plays. “They did what we asked them to do and that was to take care of business….”
Ty Issac, backing up Smith at running back, electrified with a 76-yard touchdown run up the left sideline midway through the second quarter. UNLV’s run game was held to 92 yards, with Keith Whitely leading the Rebels with 29 yards on 13 carries.
While the Rebels aptly defended the pass against Michigan on Saturday, it was the Wolverine ground game that shredded UNLV.
He showed at Iowa that he was capable of big passing plays on occasion but was more comfortable taking what the defense gave him with smaller gains. He broke a 36-yard touchdown run off his only rushing attempt of the game – 24 yards longer than any pass he caught on Saturday.
After opening the season with 30 points at Northern Illinois, UNLV has scored 10 in the past eight quarters. Blake Decker completed 2 of 6 passes for 52 yards.
Sure, a game manager doesn’t need a deep ball.
Rebel quarterback Blake Decker returned to the starting lineup after leaving early last week against U.C.L.A. due to a knee injury.
The rushing attack for UNLV was the only positive sign for the team that has started the season 0-2.
“I would love to”, Harbaugh, who proudly speaks about his Catholic faith, said in their weekly “Inside the Huddle” segment with Galli. “That was a key for us in the game”.
“It’s just a matter of doing what we’re supposed to do”, Rebels defensive tackle Mike Hughes Jr. said.
The 76 yard touchdown run from Isaac was the longest run for Michigan since Denard Robinson went 79 yards in 2012 against the Air Force Falcons. I thought he did a good job. He swerved, he avoided, he made a tackler miss, bounced off another and then it was off to the races. If he can be consistent and stop turning it over, Michigan will be better. Will he play or start?
“We’ve played two games and it’s a platform to get better and improve in every area”, Harbaugh told reporters.
Coming into the season, the Michigan football team faced a lot of uncertainty in many aspects of the group as a whole. It was that kind of day for the Wolverines, as they rumbled to a convincing, but not awe-inspiring, 28-7 win over the Rebels. A lot of two-tight end sets and offset, power backfields in the running game. This week’s game against UNLV might be his last opportunity to build some momentum against a weaker opponent, as Michigan takes on BYU next week before heading into the Big Ten schedule.
