Wolves agree to terms with Hill for 2 years, $8M
Multiple outlets report the Wolves and forward Jordan Hill have agreed to a two-year, eight-million-dollar contract.
The 28-year-old will undoubtedly come off the bench with the Timberwolves behind Gorgui Deng and soon-to-be superstar Karl-Anthony Towns. He joins Cole Aldrich, who signed his three-year, $22 million deal on Wednesday.
The Timberwolves are steadily improving, but the work isn’t done yet. If he returns, it would be a record 22nd season in the league for him. Those talks could not happen until after he retires, but owner Glen Taylor recently sold 15 percent of the team to Chinese entrepreneur Lizhang Jhiang and NY real estate mogul Meyer Orbach to fortify his position.
Hill’s immediate impact is hard to predict, but he will at least provide depth at center, where Minnesota also has an Towns, Gogrui Dieng and an aging Kevin Garnett. An arthritic ankle has made it hard for the burly center to stay on the court.
Last season, Hill played for the Indiana Pacers and was an efficient reserve.
In terms of his other strength, Hill has dipped a bit in rebounding the ball in recent years, but he remains effective hitting the glass on both ends of the floor.
A team that many media outlets are tabbing as the next contenders in the National Basketball Association, the Minnesota Timberwolves added some age to their young roster with the addition of veteran big man Jordan Hill. However, playing for Frank Vogel’s disciplined Indiana Pacers on a one-year deal last season, Hill posted a Defensive Rating of 102, his career-best over a full season. However, it will create logjam in the frontcourt and minutes will be a big issue, as per ESPN.
