Woman accused of kidnapping 2-year-old daughter arrested in Palatka, FBI says
Lilly Baumann, the now-three-year-old Broward baby who was kidnapped by her mother in May 2014, has been discovered by authorities.
FBI spokesman Jim Marshall said Megan Everett, 23, was taken into custody without incident Monday morning in Palatka, about 30 miles southwest of St. Augustine.
Lilly Abigail Baumann is back with her father, Robert Baumann, after someone saw the child on a Sunday-night CNN segment on “The Hunt with John Walsh” and realized she and her mother were her tenants, the Sheriff’s Office said. Everett ended the relationship before Lilly was born and reportedly wanted to cut Baumann out of her and her daughter’s lives.
Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies and special agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested the 23-year-old mother.
The girl will be placed with her father on Monday afternoon.
Yikes. Baumann also explained to the Sun Sentinel that Everett was concerned about the education her daughter would receive outside of the home, that, in fact, it would be too racially inclusive.
The father’s desperate search for his daughter led to his story being aired by CNN Sunday night. I can not let a judge tell me how my daughter should be raised.
In a 2014 interview with the Sun Sentinel, Baumann said Everett didn’t want their daughter to learn about black history and “just wanted her to learn about the Confederacy”. She was told they had previously spent time in the Titusville area and one witness told police they thought they had previously left the state. “She (Megan) is still my daughter”. As it happens, Carlos is described in court papers as a gun enthusiast who loves the Confederate flag and has family in the South. As for vaccinations, “I think she wanted to keep her from being vaccinated because that would keep her out of day care”, Baumann says. Pam Everett said those treasured items, along with lots of photo albums of her, are waiting for Lilly at her grandma’s home. How am I supposed to find her? “But her things are still here”.
