Woman and 11 Children Safe After Being Held Hostage in Georgia
A SWAT team in suburban Atlanta rescued a woman and 11 children this morning following a four-hour standoff that ended with the suspected hostage taker stabbing himself.
DeKalb County Police Major Tonya Dedrick told WGCL the children, ranging from three months to 17 years old, and the adults were in the room when the situation began around 2 a.m.
Thomas stabbed himself as the SWAT team stormed the room.
Eleven children and a woman are safe after surviving a domestic dispute and five-hour hostage standoff.
Authorities say a man was inside a room with the children and a woman refusing to come out after she called 911 following a disturbance. No one else was injured in the incident, AJC reports.
He has been taken to a hospital in critical condition.
