Woman arrested after allegedly attempting to abduct 17-year-old girl
The 17-year-old girl was walking to school down Boston Avenue when she was approached by a charcoal gray Toyota Corolla – earlier reporter as a Toyota Yaris.
Randall lured the girl into her vehicle by offering her a ride to school.
The girl was assaulted in the auto, but was eventually able to escape the moving vehicle uninjured.
Police say 38-year-old Towanna Randall is due in court on Tuesday on charges including third-degree sexual assault, unlawful restraint and reckless endangerment.
Randall is being held on a $100,000 bond.
“To make an arrest in this case so quickly really speaks to the around-the-clock efforts of our police force”, he said.
“I think she was very, very bold and fearless”, said Harding High School senior Demerius Bell.
Randall was taken into custody on Saturday night after police said they received dozens of tips from the public.
“This arrest is a testament to the talented and hardworking police officers and detectives in the Bridgeport Police Department”, Police Chief James Nardozzi said in a statement. “We have absolutely no reason to believe that they knew each other whatsoever”. Her past criminal record includes robbery, larceny and selling hallucinogenic narcotics, according to police.
