Woman Arrested After Live-Streaming Herself Drunk Driving
You can hear Beall in the video say, “Let’s see if I get a DUI”.
A quick-thinking officer then downloaded the Periscope app for himself, and by watching Beall’s live feed, he figured out where she was driving.
Whitney Marie Beall, 23, titled her Periscope stream – which could literally be seen by anyone with a Twitter account – “girl driving drunk”. She used the app, Periscope, to live stream her potential deadly journey while inside her auto as viewers watched helplessly begging her to stop before she hurt herself or someone else.
A 23-year-old woman was arrested when she tried to go cool with her live Periscope video while driving in a state of intoxication.
“Officers advised that the driver did not even brake after striking the curb”, police said.
Beall Periscoped herself in Lakeland, Florida.
Two people called 911, but were unable to provide many details about Beall’s location or vehicle, though she occasionally shouted out street names.
On the video, Beall tells viewers she is drunk as she drives away from her home. Her mother also declined to comment.
Police said officers could smell “the odour of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Beall”.
As officers initiated a traffic stop, police said, the vehicle hit a curb and stopped in the 1000 block of Carpenters Way.
She was arrested and charged with DUI and taken to the Polk County Jail. “Luckily, one of our younger officers was able to figure it out”, said Sgt. Gary Gross, Lakeland Police spokesman, according to WTSP-TV. “When her court date is set, I will be entering a plea on her behalf of not guilty”, attorney Lee Cohen said in a statement reported by CNN affiliate WFLA.
