Woman found dead, man injured at Cork home
Gardai in Cork have launched a murder investigation after a 60-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her home. He remains in hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The man, who knew both Mr and Mrs Horgan, was taken to nearby Mayfield Garda station where detectives were due to resume questioning him on Tuesdat morning.
He can be held for an initial period of 12 hours with an option to extend. Three ambulances also attended the scene, along with a local doctor.
The woman was found dead inside the house. “The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified”.

The house where the stabbing happened remains sealed off, and the woman’s body remains at the scene.
Officers are conducting door-to-door enquiries to discover if any of the neighbours in the usually quiet area heard or saw anything suspicious overnight.
Neighbours described the victims as “lovely sociable people” who were very active in the community.
