Woman Hit by Vehicle at Twin Ponds Dies, Alleged Driver in Jail
The man has not yet been charged, police said.
Authorities say Linskie was driving on Skyline Parkway just after 6 p.m. Tuesday when his vehicle struck Legarde-Menz, who was walking in the area. A suspect was later arrested and is being held on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide.
Minnesota court records indicate that Linskie has an extensive history of driving infractions, including driving while intoxicated, driving after revocation, driving without a license and speeding.
Witnesses told police they saw him get out of the submerged vehicle and flee. LeGarde Menz, who was apparently photographing fall colors on the scenic road, was found floating in the water, according to the complaint. Eyewitnesses pulled her out and administered first aid until help arrived. She was transported to Essentia Health-St.
Investigators were able to identify Linskie based on paperwork left in the vehicle and the description that the witnesses gave at the scene.
Linskie was tracked down several hours after the crash.
Prosecutors sought high bail because he was already on probation for a drug crime and has numerous previous convictions. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
