Woman Injured From Wearing Skinny Jeans: WATCH!
A doctor is Australia is warning wearers of skinny jeans to avoid squatting after a woman in Adelaide lost feeling in her legs, leaving her temporarily unable to walk, according to a report published Tuesday in the “Sydney Morning Herald”. The unidentified 35-year-old Australian woman spent several long hours squatting in her tight jeans while emptying cupboards while helping a friend move. Eventually her feet went numb and she fell over and found that she couldn’t get up. She spent several hours lying on the ground before she was found.
The prolonged squatting and tight jeans had cut off blood supply to the woman’s legs and caused swelling and nerve damage.
“If she hadn’t been able to come to the hospital, the compression could have gone on longer and caused residual nerve damage”, said Kimber, who is an associate professor at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia.
All was going well, until a few hours into lifting those heavy boxes, the woman collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital.
Hipsters and fashion mavens beware – skinny jeans can be bad for your health.
Stylish: But are people wearing skinny jeans walking a risky line?
They recommend that skinny-jean lovers try to keep moving during the day and seek help if they experience any ongoing pain.
Doctors says that as the pressure had built-in her lower legs, her muscles and nerves became damaged.
Kimber said the compression of two major nerves in the woman’s calf had caused her increasing weakness in her legs.
Neurology specialist Thomas Kimber wrote about the case in the latest issue of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
Doctors later concluded that the tightness of her jeans prevented her calves from expanding outward, forcing the muscles to instead compress inward onto the nerves.
