Woman names her kid ‘Uber’ after she gives birth in cab
Shahnawaz Khan, the Uber cab driver of Delhi had the experience of his life that he will never forget.
The woman’s husband, Rajkumar, had requested a friend to book the cab after repeated emergency calls for an ambulance went unanswered.
But they had to stop in between and Babli delivered the baby inside the cab, which was turned into an emergency labour room. “I called Sanjay, and told him he should have booked an ambulance, not a cab”, recalled Khan. She tried to reach Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi with a relative in the cab but she had to halt on the way as she was writhing in pain from labour.
The taxi driver, Shahnawaz Khan, who helped with the birth of baby boy, said he had to act fast once it was clear Babli was about to deliver.
They stopped at a traffic signal, and before it could change, the baby was born. “I restarted the auto and rushed towards the hospital”. “I pulled out the towels from the seats and poured some drinking water into a bowl. The child was born within minutes and I was really happy to see that he was responding”, Shahnawaz said to TOI. And when he revealed that he is not the father but her driver, the doctors were in a shock.
Reportedly, the baby will be named Uber at a ceremony on Sunday (December 13). He also arranged for a stretcher and helped the mother onto it and wheeled her inside, Babli’s neighbour accompanying them said. After the entire incident, the family of baby boy made a decision to name the boy after the company Uber. “Money, after all, is not everything in the world”, he said, adding that both the mother and child were doing well. Right after it arrived, the driver realized the woman was heavily-pregnant.
