Woman’s emotional post on anniversary of tragic accident strikes chord on
“One selfish decision to drink and drive caused me to be a widow and a mom to an angel at the age of 21”, she went on to add. “Me and my husband never got to buy our first house together”, Mantia told Fox2.
Destiny Mantia’s social media message begins “a year ago today was like many other days” and had been shared more than 16-thousand times by Monday morning.
On September 20, 2014, Destiny was traveling to an appointment with her husband Corey and son Parker when a drunk driver in an Chevy Suburban crossed the center line and hit the family’s van head on. Authorities reported she had alcohol in her system when she died.
That day the Destiny that was a mom and wife died as well.
Destiny Mantia, 22, was driving down a Missouri road with her husband and baby when a drunk driver collided with their vehicle.
Taking to Facebook a year on, Destiny has penned an open letter along with a montage of images of her family and the scene of the crash. The action of this one selfish person who thought they were “ok” to drive instantly took the life of my sweet innocent 15 month old son in the back seat. “There were just so many things we had in the plans, so much we were working towards thats never going to happen now. She ended any dreams that we may have had together and caused pain I never knew existed”.
Destiny says she’ll never be able to see her son’s first haircut and didn’t know if she could continue on. The Foristell woman shared her tragedy in hopes it will keep others from drinking and driving.
Now, her call to end drinking and driving has gone viral. Don’t drive drunk, because the life you save just might be someone’s precious husband and baby. “Don’t share DUI checkpoints”, she wrote. “One drink is too many to drive with”.
