Woman wakes up to exotic animal caressing her
The animal which had crawled up to the woman’s attic turned out to be a kinkajou. Moghari said she then brought the animal to South Dade Animal Hospital for a checkup.
Cellphone video captured Moghari’s son luring Banana out of the attic by playing her a YouTube clip of kinkajou noise.
That was the case Tuesday when a 99-year-old Miami woman was sound asleep and suddenly felt something on her chest.
A kinkajou is native to Central and South America and a member of the raccoon family, though it looks like a monkey, Harris said. “The lady ran to get help to call her daughter, and the kinkajou ran up into the attic”. According to Dr. Harris, a local veterinarian, this one had to be domisticated based on the fact that it curled up on this woman while she was sleeping.
The animal, whose name is Banana, was being cared for at South Dade Animal Hospital, where the medical center operates.
It’s not clear where Banana came from, but Harris confirmed the kinkajou is in good health.
There’s no word on how the animal got loose, but the woman’s family has a message for the owners.
Kinkajous are exotic animals who typically spend most of their time in trees. They have the ability to turn their feet backwards so they can run easily in either direction, along branches or up tree trunks. Kinkajous also often hang from their tails. The little escapee and its owner were expected to be reunited Wednesday. They are sometimes called “honey bears” because they enjoy using their long tongues to “slurp honey from a hive”, the National Geographic reports.
