The Florida Health Department recommends that women who are pregnant or are thinking about becoming pregnant postpone travel to Zika affected areas.
Zika has been declared a global emergency because of its possible links to a spike in babies born with abnormally small heads in Brazil. At first it was test anyone that returns from an affected country that has the symptoms, two or more of the symptoms.
“If you have a male partner who lives in or has travelled to an area where Zika transmission is ongoing, either abstain from sex or use condoms consistently and correctly for the duration of your pregnancy”, it added.
There is no vaccine or treatment for Zika. That’s to prevent mosquitoes from biting them and possibly spreading Zika to others in the U.S. “Health care providers should report suspected cases of Zika virus disease to their local, state, or territorial health departments to arrange testing and so that action can be taken to reduce the risk for local Zika virus transmission”.
