Won’t back people who attack my family: Cruz tells Trump
Cleveland. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz refused to endorse Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at the party’s convention on Wednesday, drawing angry jeers from Trump supporters and shattering the facade of party unity that has been carefully built up in Cleveland this week, Reuters reported.
Cruz told Trump in a phone conversation two days ago that he would not endorse him during his speech, according to Cruz aide Jason Johnson.
“I offered my resignation to Trump and the Trump family, but they rejected it. Trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from these experiences”, McIver said.
At first the delegates filling the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland cheered Cruz, who had finished second to Trump in the primaries, but suspended his campaign in May.
The campaign had hoped Pence’s address would quiet Republican doubts about Trump.
Clinton’s campaign, seeking to take advantage of the party’s divisions, echoed Cruz on Twitter, writing, “Vote your conscience” and linking to her website.
In a heated breakfast with the Texas delegation Thursday, Sen. In the end, he merely urged Americans to “vote your conscience”, for which he was heartily booed by the Trump supporters in the crowd. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) encouraged voters to head to the polls in November, but did not specifically endorse Donald Trump.
“This is really an honour and we’re going to win OH, right?” The businessman has called the senator “Lyin’ Ted” and the senator branded Trump a “pathological liar” and “serial philanderer”. Trump, he insisted, has to talk about “freedom”. As our Chris Cillizza writes, “Cruz is also banking on the idea that Trump will lose in such a way that it will cause a post-election reckoning by the Republican Party who supported him”. Everyone you speak to, with few exceptions, is holding the line, arguing that they just love that Trump guy and can’t imagine voting for anyone else.
“While Melania said, well, basically the same: “[My parents] taught me to show the values and morals in my daily life.
Cruz said he will be watching and listening but won’t sit down, shut up, support the team.
That’s when the shouts began – “We want Trump!”
The speech came hours after the IN governor joined Trump for their first official joint appearance as the Republican Party’s presidential and vice presidential nominees on the shores of Lake Erie.
Mrs. Trump gave a moving speech to the convention Monday night, highlighting a personal side of her husband that many people have never seen. “I was a Reagan delegate in 1976, and this is a train that has left the station”.
