World Diabetes Day celebrated across the UK

The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) reports more than 200,000 people in the state have diabetes, and 21 percent don’t even know they have it. An additional 120,000 have prediabetes, which occurs when a person’s blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to be true diabetes. The number of cases recorded world-wide is also on the rise with a recent survey showing that 415 million adults worldwide suffer from the disease. Individual sessions help participants learn to make choices to prevent or delay complications, develop the skills needed to control diabetes, improve blood sugar control, use smart nutrition and carbohydrate counting to control blood sugar, and cope and live healthier with diabetes.
The level of glycemic control, cardiovascular disease and renal complications can contribute excess risks of death in patients with type 2 diabetes. We spoke to Dr Sujeet Jha, Director, Institute of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Max Health Care and he gave us an insight into the world of diabetes-The Silent Killer.
People with type 1 are required to take insulin for the rest of their life. The Diabetes Self-Management Education program is certified by the American Diabetes Association and is directed by Connie Schmit, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) in conjunction with Joan Plummer, RD, CDE. They are usually diagnosed during childhood, and World Diabetes Day information is lacking in awareness of this innocent minority. “Let us all step up to limit the impact of diabetes”. Diabetes affects about 387 million people worldwide, but healthy eating and exercise will only help lower the risk of developing the most common type of diabetes.
“We also found that these 10 minute intervals may be easier to fit into busy schedules, since people randomised to that regimen were more consistent with exercise and ended up doing more exercise per week”, Pandey said.
Diabetes Australia is warning that the nation’s health system will be crippled unless swift action is taken to limit the spread of the disease. They include ones in pill and injection forms. Not to mention cart load of money the patient will save from spending on future medical treatments.
