World famous noma restaurant relocates to Sydney
One of the world’s greatest chefs, Rene Redzepi from Noma in Copenhagen, which is regularly rated the best restaurant in the world, announced today that he’ll be bringing a team of 70 people, including four Australians, to Sydney in 2016, opening Noma Australia for 10 weeks at the new Barangaroo complex.
The Danish restaurant Noma, regarded as one of the world’s best, is going Down Under.
I have also always been attracted to the vast differences you find in Australia’s landscapes and ingredients… because it is unlike any place I’ve ever seen.
This news comes after the restaurant caused quite a stir in Tokyo earlier this year for serving the unusual starter of fresh prawns with live black Nagano forest ants. “It will be a different journey, but one that I am incredibly excited about – the opportunity to broaden our horizons, to expand our minds and our tastes, to make new friends, and catch-up with old ones, as we delve into this magnificent landscape”, he added.
A spokes man for Tourism Australia said: “TA is spending approximately $500,000 on this campaign, half of which will be given to our airline partner Singapore Airline for discounted tickets to facilitate travel for Rene and his team to Australia”.
On the page, Noma co-founder and chef René Redzepi wrote that he had “the greatest learning experience in Tokyo” and hoped that Noma’s pop-up experiment in Sydney, would similarly spark off oodles of inspiration for the team.
“A big part of Restaurant Australia has been about improving Australia’s perception as a food and wine destination”.
The 10-week pop-up will take place in Sydney’s harbourside Barangaroo precinct and will focus on local seasonal Australian produce.
“I’ve been wanting to spend more time in Australia exploring, tasting, and understanding its ingredients”.
Noma Australia will open five days a week for lunch and dinner and the restaurant will start taking reservations later this year. Bookings will open later this year.
