World’s Oldest Wombat Celebrates 30th Birthday By Joining Tinder
IN many ways Patrick is the quintessential Australian bloke: he’s slightly unsophisticated, he’s single, he’s just turned thirty, and now he’s on Tinder.
The Victoria park’s oldest resident bachelor has never had much luck with females, with his handlers saying he’s too much of a sensitive, new-age wombat – or SNAW for short.
‘The male wombat has to be very aggressive towards the female, and Patrick just isn’t a very aggressive wombat, ‘ park owner Julia Leonard said.
Swipe right for Patrick!
News crews descended on the park on Tuesday to meet the 88lb (40kg) bare-nosed wombat, who was born the year Ronald Reagan began his second term in office and is pushed around the park in a wheelbarrow.
She added: “So he chooses to be single”.
Get in line ladies, the world’s oldest wombat is on the market.
Ballarat Wildlife Park’s Julia Leonard helps Patrick the wombat blow out his candles. He has over 30,000 followers on Facebook, and at press time an invitation advertising his upcoming 30th birthday party had gotten 600 likes within just 4 hours of being posted. Which also means he’s running out of time to find the love of his life.
The average common wombat is 98 centimetres long and weighs 26 kilograms – a fraction of Patrick’s dimensions, but they are sometimes known to grow all the way up to 39 kilograms.
“He’s after someone who enjoys late night, especially dusk and dawn, can dig a good hole and enjoys feeding him carrots”.
The U.S. television network CNN named Patrick the third greatest city mascot in the world a year ago.
