World’s Ugliest Dog of 2016 is a blind Chihuahua/Chinese Crested mix
The World’s Ugliest Dog competition, now in its 28th year, is held at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California, about 40 miles (64 km) north of San Francisco.
Owner Jason Wurtz, 44, of Encino, said he got the dog as a gift for his first wife but after a week she didn’t want anything to do with the gremlin-like pooch. Wilson also entered her other dog Ruby Roux in the contest, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday. Sweepee Rambo won second place in the contest last year, but she stands alone this year as top dog in the annual competition.
The 17-year-old walked a red carpet and paraded on stage, as it was introduced to the audience.
There are three judges on hand who award points based on the dogs’ appearance, their personalities, and the reactions of the audience.
One pup named Himisaboo, who didn’t place, had a flowing golden tuft that resembled that of the presumptive Republican nominee for president.
There is one strict rule, however, and that is the “animal must not have been intentionally altered to enhance appearance for the objective of this contest”.
Himisaboo has competed four times already, but thanks to his unique hair, his owner thinks the dog will really stand out this year.
Each year, the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest seeks out a different kind of victor: the world’s ugliest dog. Hope he could fit it on the motorcycle.
