Wounded Pennsylvania officer to be released from hospital
An officer shot several times near Philadelphia got a call from country singer Kenny Chesney with an apology for announcing at a concert that he had died of his injuries.
Folcroft Officer Christopher Dorman was shot seven times Friday while he responded to a report of drug activity.
After police arrested Donte Brooks Island, the 33-year-old suspect who also goes by Abdul Wahi, without further incident Friday, bystanders cheered and applauded the almost 200 officers who risked life and limb to make their community a little safer.
The shooting suspect, 33-year-old Donte Island, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Kenny called Dorman on Sunday morning (26Jun16), and according to TMZ, offered to take the recovering police officer to a football game. In a now deleted series of tweets, the Folcroft Police informed Chesney that what he said was false and urged the country music superstar to make things right. There was a struggle and the gunman allegedly drew his weapon and shot Dorman seven times.
“Kenny, don’t forget me”, Dorman says in the video.
During a statement released immediately following the concert Chesney corrected his error, saying he was caught up in the moment and not as clear as he should have been. “Told him we’d watch an Eagles game & have beers one day”, he wrote to his more than two million followers.
A Penn Presbyterian spokeswoman on Saturday said any updates on Dorman’s condition would be released by Folcroft police. Dorman joined the force as a part-time officer last summer and has volunteered with the borough’s fire department for 16 years. Officer Dorman is doing well enough he sent out a video from his hospital bed (see below). A law-enforcement friend has set up a GoFundMe page to help defray Dorman’s medical costs.
