WR Baldwin, Seahawks reach 4-year extension
Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin has agreed to a 4-year extension, worth $46 million, just over $24 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports. He signed a $13 million, three-year deal with Seattle following the 2013 season that runs through this upcoming season.
Baldwin, 27, is coming off a breakout 2015 campaign that saw him record career highs in receptions (78), receiving yards (1,069) and touchdowns (14). “Everything I said, it happened…” Baldwin joins quarterback Russell Wilson, safety Earl Thomas, cornerback Richard Sherman, linebacker Bobby Wagner, linebacker K.J. Wright, defensive end Cliff Avril, wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, defensive back Jeremy Lane and defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin as Seahawks signed through at least 2018.
Baldwin had been set to enter the final year of his existing contract.
The deal was first reported by 710 ESPN Seattle’s Gee Scott. Allen’s deal comes in around .25 million per season.
Undrafted out of Stanford in 2011, Baldwin has played in 78 of 80 games for Seattle since signing with the Seahawks, he has started every game each of the last two seasons. Representatives did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
Baldwin turns 28 in late September, so the Seahawks have him locked up for his prime years.
“A lot of changes, so I don’t even know how to quantify it”, he said. “I would just say it’s just the process a young man goes through”.
Baldwin’s deal also exceeds Hurns’ and Allen’s deals in guaranteed money. And again, if I focus on the task at hand, all that other stuff will take care of itself. Before news of Baldwin’s extension broke Tuesday, John Clayton projected that it would be worth between $8.5 million and $9.5 million on average once it was completed.
