Wrath of Khan Director Joins New Star Trek TV Series
Writer and director of “Wrath of Khan”, Nicholas Meyer has joined the team as a writer and producer. Todd previously portrayed Worf’s brother Kurn on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, as well as an aged version of Jake Sisko on DS9. He also wrote “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”, which was released in 1986.
Meyer has the full confidence of showrunner Bryan Fuller, the man behind telly hit Hannibal. But you don’t need skills to put this magnificent replica of the 2009 USS Enterprise on your fireplace mantle-just $7,000. Meyer believes the franchise is instrumental in opening up the audience’s eyes to examine the world around them with a fresh perspective. Like the best science fiction, Star Trek does not show us other worlds so meaningfully as it shows us our own – for better or for worse, in sickness and health.
The “Star Trek” series now in the works at CBS Television Studios has enlisted Nicholas Meyer, the director of “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan” to write and produce the new series, TheWrap has learned. “He’s a brilliant writer/director and an unbelievable guy”. The new Star Trek series will premiere on CBS in early 2017, with subsequent episodes streaming on the CBS All Access service.
The creative plan is for the series to introduce new characters and civilizations, existing outside of the mythology charted by previous series and the current movie franchises.
So far, no casting announcements for the new Star Trek series have been made, but Tony Todd has publicly mentioned that he is “on the short list” for the new show. All first-run episodes will be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access.
