Wrigley Field Evacuated Following Cubs Game After Phone Threat
The Chicago Cubs had just swept the San Francisco Giants for the first time in almost 40 years, but a bomb threat didn’t give them any time to celebrate.
Chicago Police spokesman Thomas Sweeney says the department received a telephone threat Sunday that prompted officers to investigate.
“Following our game this afternoon, we received a bomb threat and took swift action to clear the few remaining fans, players, staff and media from the ballpark”, the statement reads.
CSN’s Kelly Crull, who was at Wrigley Field, reported it was because of a bomb threat. “After a radical search by regulation enforcement, no proof was discovered to recommend this menace was credible”. Reporters also said officers were checking corridors and saw K9 police dogs on the premises.
As of 6:50 p.m., all media and staff were allowed back into Wrigley Field, according to Crull.
Most of the fans had already poured into the streets to celebrate the successful weekend, so clearing out the stadium was not overly hard.
“We take security at Wrigley Subject significantly and are working with regulation enforcement authorities to pursue the one that initiated this menace”, the Cubs stated.
