Wrongful death suit filed against Tony Stewart after 2014 sprint vehicle accident
He said that “The videos did not demonstrate any aberrational driving by Tony Stewart until the point of impact with Kevin Ward, at which point his vehicle veered to the right up the track as a result of the collision”.
The Ward family has accused him of acting with “reckless and malicious intent and negligence” and is suing for unspecified damages.
A grand jury declined to charge Stewart after hearing testimony in September.
Following Ward’s death, Stewart withdrew from three NASCAR races and has had limited success – with no victories – on the track since returning.
“I was frustrated yesterday and I probably wasn’t helping”, he said.
He exited the vehicle and walked down the track, waving his arms at Mr Stewart in an apparent attempt to confront him.
Luckily for the 22-year-old Texan, three of the next four series races take place at road courses – Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio and Road America. Though Gordon’s focus was clearly on the weekend’s race, the media had just as clearly in mind as shown through their questions the fact that this was the popular driver’s last competition at The Glen as a driver. “It’s important for us, if we can’t win this race, to be really solid, get a good solid finish”.
According to a release by the Lanier Law Firm, which represents Ward’s parents, Kevin and Pamela, the suit was filed Friday in the 5th Judicial District for the Supreme Court of the State of New York in Lowville.
The then-32-year-old first-time Cup victor screamed “I love you guys, thank you”, slowly rose out of his seat to stand on the door of his auto and belly flopped off of it to crowd surf on his jubilant crew members.
It’s been almost two decades since Jeff Gordon won his first Sprint Cup road race. In five road course starts in the ARCA Racing Series, Buescher earned one win (Road America, 2013) and three top-five finishes. “Early on, I just remember wanting to take on every challenge as a team, to improve to be a bigger threat to the championship”.
“I went to enough driving schools to get a little bit of knowledge”, said Gordon, who on Sunday will race at WGI for the last time as a full-time Sprint Cup driver. “I’m ready to put the last two years behind me and never look back”, Stewart said in January.
“Tony Stewart, if he were to win this weekend I think it would be a true revival story of his season and maybe of the rest of his career”, Kyle Busch said Friday morning.
At the time, Stewart said it was tragic that a young driver had lost his life, but that it was an accident, pure and simple. “It doesn’t help you continue to move forward with it. I can’t wait for the offseason to get the plates removed in my foot and then I feel like I’ll be right back to what I was before”.
