WSU vs. Oregon State final score: Cougars dispatch Beavers, 52-31
The 2010 game was the infamous game in the rain in Reser where the Cougs and Paul Wulff got 1 of only 2 wins they would muster all season, and it ultimately cost the Beavers a bowl trip. WSU defeated the Ducks in double overtime last week. Washington State Cougars rank at 80 for scoring 28.3 points where as Oregon State Beavers rank at 74 for allowing 26.3 scores.
WSU – River Cracraft 3 pass from Luke Falk (Erik Powell kick), 11:15. In their previous two defeats against Stanford and Arizona, the Beavers mustered nine yards on each of their two respective opening drives before electing to punt on 4 and 1. 8-49-3:36.
Falk had more TD passes in the first half (6) than incompletions (5).
In the first quarter, Oregon State mustered only 14 yards on eight carries.
The score gave Washington State its first points on a day when it went on to tally 45 in the first half, the most for the Cougars in a two-quarter span since 1997. Because rushing the ball was the only effective offense for the Beavers, the clock ticked quickly in the second half.
Falk, who now has 34 career touchdowns, finished 39 of 50 for 407 yards against the same team he pummeled last season for five touchdowns and 471 yards in his first college football start.
CARDIAC COUGARS: Four of WSU’s five games have been decided by a touchdown or less, with two victories coming in the closing seconds.
Falk, now a sophomore, originally committed to play at Cornell but then had the chance to walk on at Washington State in 2013.
ABOUT OREGON STATE (2-3, 0-2 Pac-12): Collins, a freshman, is hoping to bounce back from an 8-of-24 passing performance last week, when he failed to throw a touchdown for the first time this season. Collins threw one touchdown pass and ran for another. Wide receiver Victor Bolden led the Beavers with 79 yards on six receptions and also scored on a 100-yard kickoff return. Luani was second on the team with 10 tackles, typically punishing ones, and had two fourth-quarter interceptions.
“We played a really good first half, but not a great second half”. “I think they’re playing with effort, but they don’t as a whole group completely understand the responsibility factor of playing big-time college football on the defensive side of the ball”, Andersen told the Corvallis Gazette-Times. “I was a little disappointed on how we played in the second half and we’ll have to get better as we move on to Arizona next week” – Leach.
