WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper dies at 61
He suffered cardiac arrest while sleeping and was discovered on Friday.
In 1984 he joined Vince Mcmahon ” s World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), coming in as a heel character and initially fronting his own interview segment, “Piper’s Pit”. Hogan had used racial slurs in a conversation captured on a sex tape. He teamed with Paul Orndorff on March 31, 1985, to take on Hulk Hogan and Mr. T at Madison Square Garden in Wrestlemania’s first main event.
While The Iron Sheik issued a statement saying, “Roddy Piper”. Piper was cast as the villain, and his disqualification led to Hogan keeping the WWF championship.
Roddy piper was Born Roderick George Toombs on April 17, 1954, he made his professional wrestling debut at 15 in Winnipeg against Larry Hennig.
Since Piper’s death, stars from all corners have expressed their sadness at his passing. He also acted in several movies, including John Carpenter’s cult classic They Live.
His family mourned his loss on social media in the hours after his passing. TMZ reports that he died of natural causes; the actor was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, but had stated in November that he was cancer free.
Wrestling fans worldwide are in mourning after the sudden death of grappling legend “Rowdy” Roddy Piper at the age of 61.
Fellow wrestler Zack Ryder, 30, tweeted: “RIP “Rowdy” Roddy Piper…I’ll never forgot you smashing a coconut over my head at WrestleMania XXVII (sic)”. “He was a great wrestler, a masterful entertainer and a good friend”, Carpenter wrote on Facebook.
Skakel told E! News that the wrestler, who had last appeared on his show two months ago, did not show up and that his wife texted him to say he was unable to make it.
